Nicholas here, with Zenith Design + Build! It’s been an exciting two years in business for us and I thought it was time I shared a bit about our journey and the approach we’re taking with the home building and remodeling process.
OUR START
I grew up in Iowa and graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Construction Engineering. After graduation, I worked in commercial and residential construction, managing over $10MM in projects. Zenith Design + Build got its official start in January of 2018. I wanted to start my own company because I couldn’t shake the vision of wanting to see a better approach to design. I was tired of hearing a negative response to contracting projects in the remodeling business, and wanted to do something about it.
COMPANY GOALS
My goal with Zenith Design + Build is to offer a more integrated design and construction approach. My team and I know what designs affect cost and how to maximize quality design with cost and functionality.
The other focus of ours is the customer experience. Many are not as focused on the customer experience as we are. It's not just about providing a good product, it's about providing the best experience for the customer. We do this through constant, open communication with the homeowner, staying organized and on top of the details. We work very hard at this, and I think this comes across to our customers.
COMMUNITY
Another goal of mine is to give back by helping the Des Moines metro revive neighborhoods and offering housing. In 2018 we built a home for Joppa, an organization that helps combat homelessness in the Des Moines Metro. The cottage home we built was their first, as part of the organization's vision to build houses for veterans, the disabled and the homeless. We also hope to buy homes to rehab in the Des Moines Metro area. We’re always on the lookout for distressed properties and for others who are looking to get involved.
TEAMWORK
With this company, I hope to create a team of people that loves what they do and are masters of their craft, giving everyone more financial and lifestyle freedom. I want to build a home building and remodeling company that is self-sustaining for years to come.
We’ve got a few awards under our belt during our first year. During the HBA Tour of Remodeled Homes last September, we won the People’s Choice Award, given to the favorite remodeled home on the tour. The project that won was a South of Grand home that underwent a total transformation to an ultra-modern exterior and Mid-century Modern interior. It’s located at 3200 John Lynde. Drive by and check it out! We also were voted Cityview’s Best Contractor by readers last year.
I’m proud of our team and all we’ve accomplished. This year we’ve been busy with several major remodeling projects, and just released our new floor plans for new construction.
